UcDean aims at concrete improvements of student life at University College Utrecht through services and activities that transcend the preoccupations of ASIC and UCSA. UcDean is a group with a broad organizational profile, which opens up to all ideas, suggestions and complaints of UCU students, seeking to implement them through determination, social action and charismatic leadership. In all its activities and programmes, UcDean has four priorities:

  • Establishing bridges between students from different social, ethnic and educational backgrounds. UcDean actively seeks to engage students from different departments and different backgrounds in its events. The application procedures for some of its events are specifically designed to achieve this.
  • Offering a platform for the implementation of large scale, creative, experimental projects with a distinctive social, bonding character, encouraging social initiative, creativity and boosting organizational, management and leadership skills in an informal setting.
  • Offering all students the chance to participate at extraordinary low costs in path-breaking, life-changing activities, which focus on the building of social and mental skills through the confrontation with unexpected situations and unknown worlds. “Who is the Mole” and the Eastern Europe Trip are the main vehicles for this process.
  • Establishing linkages between campus life and the wider socio-cultural environment in which University College operates. UcDean involves neighbourhoods and peoples in the Netherlands as well as abroad; it seeks to project a creative, dynamic, progressive image of University College Utrecht onto its wider environment; UcDean encourages participation at different levels and in different ways by non-UCU students, even though the UCU student community is always central in its activities and events.

Dean is University College’s only fully independent student action body. Dean was established by Hans Hindriks, then a second year student, in the fall of 2007 and rapidly became known as the most popular and most influential action group on campus. All students of University College Utrecht can become a member for free, by joining through here. All Dean’s profits are re-invested in new activities.
